The world’s best known MTBer, Christoph Sauser, will be competing at the Rainmaker RollerCoaster, the world’s first seven-day gravel race, which takes place in the Western Cape, South Africa, from 6-12 October 2018. Sauser will be riding for his charity, Songo.info.

Swiss national, Christoph, is a former World Champion and the world’s best-known marathon MTBer, with five ABSA Cape Epics titles, and 14 UCI World Cup wins, as well as an Olympic bronze medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia.

Established in 2008, Songo.info is a sport and academic support programme focused on creating a long term positive impact on the children in Kayamandi, Stellenbosch. The programme provides children with opportunities to participate in recreational and competitive sporting activities as well as much needed educational support, in order to contribute to the social upliftment of the community.

“I have really enjoyed the new discipline of gravel biking and to be able to race it in a region that I love and know, will make it even more rewarding. Also, being able to use it as a platform for songo.info fundraising means a lot to me and the young kids of Kayamandi.”

Christoph, who has only recently been bitten by the gravel riding and racing bug, said

“To have someone of Christoph’s global standing race the inaugural Rainmaker RollerCoaster will not only put a spotlight on the fast-growing discipline of gravel riding, but also showcase the world’s best gravel route – namely the Cross Cape in the Overberg region. I’m looking forward to finding out who his teammate will be!”

Sven Thiele, HotChillee Founder and RollerCoaster organiser, commented

“I’ve spent a lot of time with Christoph helping to shape songo.info. To have him taking part in the inaugural event that will finish at Kwanokuthula is very, very exciting.”

Jan Joubert, CEO of Rainmaker, added
